Reflecting on My TEDx Journey: The Great Workplace Rewrite

Standing on the iconic red circle at TEDx CTSU in San Jose was a career-defining moment. As I took the stage to discuss “The Great Workplace Rewrite,” I felt the weight and excitement of contributing to TED’s mission of spreading ideas worth sharing.

Breaking Traditional Norms

My talk centered on three fundamental shifts reshaping our workplace landscape:

  1. The evolution from “lucky to have a job” to “lucky to have talented employees”

  2. The transformation from rigid career ladders to the more dynamic “Career Jungle Gym”

  3. The emergence of “Influencer Leadership” replacing traditional top-down hierarchies

A Moment of Connection

One of my favorite moments came when discussing the Career Jungle Gym (a concept coined by my friend Danielle Roberts from the Gen Z @ Work podcast). The audience’s reaction to comparing traditional career ladders with a more playful, flexible structure really drove home how ready we are for change in our professional journeys.

The Power of Data

The statistics resonated deeply with the audience – particularly that Gen Z is projected to work in 17 different jobs across 5 careers. This reality check helped frame why we need to fundamentally rethink our approach to career development and employee retention.

Looking Forward

The response has been incredible, with many leaders reaching out to discuss implementing these concepts in their organizations. It’s encouraging to see how many are ready to embrace this workplace revolution and create more dynamic, engaging environments for all generations!

What’s Next

While the talk is now available on YouTube, this is just the beginning of the conversation. I’m excited to continue exploring these themes through my speaking engagements and working with organizations ready to pioneer the Future of Work.

I’d love to hear your thoughts on the workplace revolution.

  • How are you seeing these changes play out in your organization?

  • What steps are you taking to adapt to this new era?

Let’s continue this crucial conversation about shaping the future of work together!
